Launching of National HRM Standards

The National HRM Standards have officially launched in Sri Lanka – “A major moment in our history that will shape HR practices for years to come.”
The inauguration ceremony of the launching of National HRM Standards at Cosmic by Citrus was a truly momentous occasion, bringing together esteemed professionals, academics, and leaders from various sectors. It was held on the 30th of April 2024 at 5:00 PM and witnessed by many.
 
In an exciting partnership, CIPM and SLSI have come together to set national standards in HRM! This historic initiative showcases their commitment to elevating HR practices in Sri Lanka and keeping them in line with global benchmarks.
 
The successful digital launch of the National HRM Standards, with the esteemed presence of Chief Guest Hon. Manusha Nanayakkara, Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment, and Guest of Honour Dr. Asanga Ranasinghe, Chairman of Sri Lanka Standards Institution. The event was graced by Mr. Ken Vijayakumar, President of CIPM Sri Lanka, Mr. Jayantha Amarasinghe, Immediate Past President of CIPM Sri Lanka, and Mr. Dammika Fernando, Chairman of the Sectoral Committee on Formulation of National HRM Standards. We are proud to set new benchmarks for HRM practices in Sri Lanka.
 
Under the visionary leadership of Mr. Jayantha Amarasinghe, Immediate Past President of CIPM, the Sectoral Committee for Developing National Standards on Human Resource Management was formed. This esteemed committee, comprising nationally and internationally acclaimed HRM professionals, worked tirelessly to formulate country-specific HRM standards.
 
Mr. Dhammika Fernando, Chairman of the Sectoral Committee and a distinguished figure in the HR landscape, led the charge, supported by a team of experts including Mr. Priyantha Ranasinghe, Prof. Ajantha Dharmasiri, Mr. Aruna Jayasekera, Mr. C. Hewapattini, Dr. Chandana Jayawardhane, Mr. Dhammika Kobbekaduwa, Mr. Sanjaya Walpita, Dr. Sanjaya Jayasuriya and  Ms. Ruwani Senevirathne (Secretary). Each member contributed their unique insights and expertise, ensuring that the National HRM Standards uphold the highest standards of professionalism and innovation.
 
Under the steadfast guidance of CIPM President Mr. Ken Vijayakumar and with the oversight of the Executive Council, the national project reached its fruition. Mr. Vijayakumar expressed his excitement at seeing these standards come to life, emphasizing their role in maintaining the integrity of the HR profession and establishing a standard of excellence across the country.
 
The collaborative effort between CIPM and SLSI resulted in the creation of eleven comprehensive standards covering key areas of HRM, meticulously crafted to address the evolving needs of the Sri Lankan corporate landscape. Ranging from SLS 1787:2024 to SLS 1796:2024, these standards set a new benchmark for professionalism and standardization in HR practices.
 
With the approval of these standards by the board of SLSI, they are now set to be published and promulgated, ushering in a new era of excellence and innovation in HR practices across Sri Lanka. This landmark achievement reflects the commitment of CIPM and SLSI to foster organizational success and societal prosperity through the advancement of HRM practices.
 
With the introduction of these standards, CIPM and SLSI pave the way for a future where HR practices in Sri Lanka drive not only organizational success but also contribute significantly to societal prosperity, setting a shining example for the global HR community.
