CIPM Sri Lanka – the Nation’s Leader in Human Resource Management, recently celebrated the appointment of its Chartered Member – Admiral (Retd) Piyal De Silva, former Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy as Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The event was held at the CIPM Head Office “HR House” in Colombo 5 in the presence of the Jayantha Amarasinghe-President, CIPM Sri Lanka and other key officials of CIPM including Priyankara Seneviratne-Hon. Secretary of CIPM, U.A.C. Obeyesekere-Chief Executive Officer CIPM, G. Weeratunga-Director Professional & Academic Affairs.
Speaking at the occasion, CIPM Sri Lanka President-Jayantha Amarasinghe said “We are honored that former Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy – Admiral Piyal De Silva, CIPM Chartered Member and outstanding human resource professional has been appointed to the high post of Ambassador of Afghanistan. We are confident that he will keep the Sri Lanka flag and CIPM flying high in Afghanistan”.
“My human resource management capabilities have helped me throughout my career, and I am honored to be a Chartered Member of CIPM. I will carry CIPM wherever I go.” said Admiral Piyal De Silva.
A celebrated officer with an illustrious career, Admiral Piyal De Silva was appointed the 23rd Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy on 1st January 2019. Having joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1984, Admiral De Silva held a number of key positions including Chief of Staff of the Navy, Director General Operations, Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet and Commanding Officer of a number of ships, crafts and establishments during his naval career. Admiral De Silva graduated with a master’s degree in Human Resource Management as well as a master’s degree in Defense & Strategic Studies. An avid sportsman having represented the Sri Lanka Navy in 6 sports disciplines, he was awarded Navy colors for basketball having represented the National basketball team for the SAF Games and Asian Championships.
