Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka (IPM) was founded in 1959 by a small group of professionals with the objective of developing and promoting the profession of personnel management. The Institute was subsequently incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1976, and its name was amended by Act No. 31 of 2018 as the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM).

Dhammika Fernando was awarded Lifetime Gold Medal by CIPM at the National HR Conference 2023.

Mr Dhammika Fernando past president of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka and Director and Local Chief Officer of Tropical Findings (Pvt) Limited was awarded the Lifetime Gold Award for excellence in Human Resource Management. This Award is made annually at the National HR Conference to selected Professionals who have contributed at the highest level for the betterment of HRM, in recognition made to the HRM disciplines.

Dhammika Fernando, a highly accomplished management professional with over 36 years of experience in the manufacturing industry. Dhammika began his career as an Engineering Officer at a national TV broadcasting network before transitioning into the manufacturing industry, where he has established himself as a respected leader.

Dhammika graduated in Electronics & Telecom Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, as well as a postgraduate qualification from the Open University. He also completed an MBA, specializing in HRM, through a two-year research master’s program at the Open University of Sri Lanka. Dhammika is a Chartered Fellow of CIPM Sri Lanka and has acquired certifications as an HR auditor and lead management consultant.

Dhammika served as the President of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka and is currently the Director and Local Chief Officer of Tropical Findings (Pvt) Limited. This company is a pioneering Japanese conglomerate operating in EPZ Katunayake for 45 years.

In addition to his work at Tropical Findings, Dhammika actively participates in various industry bodies and councils. He has been involved with the FTZ Manufacturers’ Association for over two decades and currently holds the position of Chairman. Since 2009, Dhammika has served on the National Labour Advisory Council, a permanent tripartite body formed by the Ministry of Labour and chaired by the Minister. Furthermore, he is a member of the National Wages Board for the Apparel Trade.

CIPM Sri Lanka – the Nation’s leader in human resource management held its annual graduation ceremony at the BMICH, Colombo on Tuesday 31st May 2022 where over 800 graduates from the CIPM Business School received their well-deserved honors. The graduands represented students who followed the CIPM Chartered Qualification in Human Resource Management (CQHRM), CIPM Professional Qualification in Human Resource Management (PQHRM), CIPM Diploma in Training & Human Resource Development (DTHRD) and MSc in HRM & Development from the University of Salford, Manchester, UK.


Chief Guest Mr. Daniel Bood – Counsellor Political and Trade at High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka and Acting High Commissioner of Canada to Sri Lanka, Guest of Honour Mr. Shakthi Ranatunga – Group Director – Chief Operating Officer (COO) MAS Holdings (Pvt) Ltd joined CIPM President – Jayantha Amarasinghe, Members of the CIPM Executive Council, CEO, CIPM faculty members and staff at the ceremony which was held under the timely theme of “ Guiding the leaders of tomorrow towards resilience”

 

 

CIPM - ResearchSymposium

CIPM Standing Committee on Applied Research and Knowledge Centre successfully conducted its annual research symposium on 25 & 26 May 2022 as an international event under the theme “Glocalization of HRM Practices for Business Resilience”. It has concluded as a greatest scholarly event under the guidance of Mr. Jayantha Amarasinghe – President CIPM Sri Lanka and Prof. Prasadini Gamage, Chairperson of the symposium.  

Mr. Johnny C. Taylor, Jr – President and CEO, Society of Human Resource Management, Washington DC, USA, Prof. Fang Lee Cooke, Professor of HRM and Asia Studies, Monash Business School, Monash University, Australia, and Dr A K L Jayawardene, Senior Lecturer/Consultant, Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayawardenepura, Sri Lanka were participated as Guest of Honor, Keynote Speaker, and Guest Speaker respectively. Prof. Prasadini Gamage – Professor in HRM, University of Kelaniya and Council Member of CIPM chaired the symposium while Ms. Dillanjani Weeratunge, Commercial Manager, E.B. Creasy & Co. PLC, Member of CIPM was the Secretary.

CIPM President Mr. Jayantha Amarasinghe, Mr. Ken Vijayakumar, Prof.(Dr.) Prasadhini Gamage, Mrs. Dillanjani Weeratunge and Mr. C. Obeyesekere were on the head table. Panel discussion was moderated by Mr. Ken Vijayakumar, Vice President of the CIPM and Panel Members were Prof. Ajantha Dharmasiri, Professor in Management, Former Director and Chairman of the Board of Management, Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), Sri Lanka, Past President of CIPM, Mr. Mahendra Jayasekera, Managing Director, Lanka Wall Tiles, Sri Lanka, Mr. Rajitha Kariyawasan, Managing Director, Haycarb Plc., Sri Lanka and Mrs. Chandi H. Dharmaratne, Vice President Human Resources, Global Head of HR Automation, Virtusa,

The technical session tracks were comprising of HRM as a Strategic Partner, HRM in the New Digital Age and in IT industry, HRM Practices in Different Industries, HRM during New Normal, Talent Management, Leadership & Diversity Studies, Employee Health & Well-Being, and Business & Cross Functional Challenges. Furthermore, there was a presentation of National Research conducted by the Applied Research Centre of CIPM Sri Lanka on how to attract youth to technical and vocational education during the 2nd day of the symposium.  

The case Study session was Chaired by Mr. Dammika Fernando, Immediate Past President, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka Inc., Sri Lanka; Mr. C. The symposium has published the proceedings with over 600 pages which included 60 out of more than 80 research papers, the Journal of HRM Perspectives and Case study book with success stories of 5 leading companies. All submissions have undergone double blind peer review with a review panel consisting of 45 members selected from national and international universities.  

The CIPM International Research Symposium was sponsored by SLT-Mobitel, HayCarb Plc., Horizon Campus and Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) and co-partnered by leading local and international education institutes including Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Management Science University (MSU), Malaysia, University of Salford, Manchester, UK, Open University of Sri Lanka, University of Vavuniya, University of Ruhuna, and the CINEC Campus.

Dynamic and Professional Leader Jayantha Amarasinghe Re-elected President CIPM Sri Lanka

 CIPM Sri Lanka announced the unanimous re-election of its incumbent President, versatile business leader and HR professional – Jayantha Amarasinghe to lead the human resource professional body into the upcoming year at the Annual General Meeting held on 26th March 2022. 

The trust and confidence of the membership in President Amarasinghe’s capabilities as a leader was reflective of the achievement of multiple successes and growth in all of CIPM Sri Lanka’s goals for the previous year and over-achievement of targets amidst the challenges and uncertainties posed by the pandemic led the members to an undoubted election of Mr. Amarasinghe.
